Shailene Woodley may be having a bit of a Moment, winning raves for Sundance hit “The Spectacular Now” and landing high profile roles in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” and “Divergent” and maybe “The Fault in Our Stars”, but that’s still not all that the former ABC Family series star has on her plate. Her first film role after completing work on the final season of “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” was Gregg Araki’s “White Bird in a Blizzard”, and today we have the first images from the indie drama.
The film, based on the novel by Laura Kasischke, sees Woodley as Kat, a 17 year old girl whose life is upended after the disappearance of her mother (Eva Green, also featured in the first photos). Christopher Meloni plays the detective on the case and Shiloh Fernandez plays Woodley’s love interest. The film has no distributor or release date yet, but has been pegged as a possibility to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
Production company Wild Bunch also released the official synopsis, which you can see below along with all three images.
Kat Connors is 17 years old when her perfect homemaker mother, Eve, a beautiful, enigmatic, and haunted woman, disappears – just as Kat is discovering and relishing her newfound sexuality. Having lived for so long in a stifled, emotionally repressed household, she barely registers her mother’s absence and certainly doesn’t blame her doormat of a father, Brock, for the loss. In fact, it’s almost a relief. But as time passes, Kat begins to come to grips with how deeply Eve’s disappearance has affected her. Returning home on a break from college, she finds herself confronted with the truth about her mother’s departure, and her own denial about the events surrounding it…
