Another big role is up for grabs for young actresses, and refreshingly, it’s not for a superhero’s girlfriend. THR reports a remake of 1980s teen romance “Endless Love” is in the works, and five young actresses are flying in to LA tomorrow to begin testing for the female lead originally played by Brooke Shields. Australian up and comer Brenton Thwaites will be doing chemistry reads with the ladies but he has not yet officially been cast for the male lead, though he is “well liked” by filmmakers.
Director Shana Feste will oversee the tests pairing Thwaites up with Australian actress Sophie Lowe, British model Gabriella Wilde, Irish Sarah Bolger and British actress Olivia Cooke. The report specifies five actresses will be testing, which leaves one mystery girl. The actress chosen will land the updated Jade Butterfield role, who falls for David Axelrod. The two enter a relationship which intensity worries her parents. When they are forced to break up until the end of high school, David sets an ill-fated plan into motion to appear as a hero in front of them to win back their favor. Shooting is set for this spring, and because of her commitment to “Love, Rosie”, Lily Collins was considered but ultimately had to pass.
Wilde is someone we’ve seen a lot on recent shortlists. One of our faces to watch in 2013, she will soon be seen opposite Chloe Moretz in Kimberly Pierce’s remake of “Carrie”, and is vying for the lead in Disney’s live-action “Cindrella.” Lowe, Thwaites’ Australian countrymate, also ended up on a high profile shortlist a couple of years back, as David Fincher narrowed down his search for “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” to a final five. She’ll soon be seen in “The Philosophers.”
Bolger recently appeared as Princess Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty) on ABC series “Once Upon a Time” and she recently wrapped up shooting indie thriller “Crush” opposite Lucas Till. Cooke wrapped up filming on the female lead in Hammer horror “The Quiet Ones” opposite Sam Claflin and will be a series regular on A&E’s upcoming “Bates Motel.”
