Unequivocally one of the biggest breakout stars of the year, Rebel Wilson is now expanding her resume to behind the scenes. Deadline reports Wilson pitched an untitled comedy idea to Universal, the studio who’s very pleased with the performance of “Pitch Perfect” these days, and their breakout star will not only act in the film, but produce and write it as well.

There are no plot details available, but clearly, Wilson herself was the big selling point. Producer Erik Baiers tells Deadline, “Rebel has become one of the hottest comedic actresses working today and we are thrilled to continue our relationship with her following her breakout performance in Bridesmaids and her scene stealing ‘Fat Amy’ in Pitch Perfect. We are especially excited that this project will feature her amazing talents both in front of and behind the camera.”

Wilson, who had been steadily working in her native Australia since 2004, suddenly leaped onto Hollywood’s radar after a small but memorable turn as Kristen Wiig’s roommate in 2011′s smash hit “Bridesmaids.” From there it was more raunchy female-centric comedies for Wilson, with stops at “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” and “Bachelorette” before stealing scenes from Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow in the “IT” movie of the moment, the college a capella musical comedy “Pitch Perfect.” She has wrapped up shooting on Michael Bay’s black comedy “Pain and Gain” with Mark Wahlberg and Anthony Mackie as well as “Glee” star Chris Colfer’s “Struck by Lightning.”
