It’s Nicholas Sparks meets the Vietnam War in our first look at indie romantic drama “Love and Honor” (formerly “AWOL”), which sees Liam Hemsworth follow his army buddy who wants to reunite with his girlfriend (Austin Stowell) home, and end up falling for someone himself. Aimee Teegarden plays Stowell’s girl, and Hemsworth falls for fellow Aussie Teresa Palmer, as both of them affect their best American accents for this 1960s drama set on the University of Michigan campus.
There’s some half-hearted rumination on the ethics of war and the anti-war movement amongst college students in this Danny Mooney directed indie, but let’s get real. This is clearly a love story, with Hemsworth marveling that he’s never felt committed to anything but the army – until now. Will he return to Vietnam to risk his life fighting for his country or stay for his newfound love, and possibly get arrested for being a deserter?
“Love and Honor” has been set for a fall 2012 release, though no specific date has been given. Watch the first trailer below.
