“The Social Network” really did wonders for former boybander Justin Timberlake’s image as a serious actor. Look at him now, just two years later, starring opposite heavyweights Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams in what could be another serious prestige film during another Oscar season. In “Trouble with the Curve”, Eastwood plays an aging baseball scout, reluctant to give up his life’s work, while Adams is his daughter who would like to take over the family business and maybe finally get to spend time with her absent father in the meantime. In a refreshing change of pace, Timberlake appears to take on a secondary love interest/support role to Adams, who clearly gets the emotional journey here (hey, it would have been just as easy – and more predictable – for Eastwood’s character to have a son rather than a daughter).
Eastwood came out of semi-retirement to act in his longtime producing partner Robert Lorenz’s directorial debut. “Trouble with the Curve” will be released on September 28th, and the first trailer can be viewed below.
