She’s made her mark on British cult hit “Doctor Who” and now she’s ready to conquer the big screen. Deadline reports Karen Gillan has landed the lead role in horror flick “Oculus”, which will film later this fall in Alabama. Gillan will play one of two siblings who, as children, witnessed the death of their parents. The brother was convicted of the crime while the sister, Kaylie always believed an antique haunted mirror was responsible. Ten years later, with Gillan as Kaylie and her brother still to be cast, the siblings are torn between moving on and returning to solve the mystery.
Gillan recently left “Doctor Who” after playing the Doctor’s companion, Amy Pond, for four years. She’s got a cult following due to this role, and she has already locked another starring film rolepost-”Doctor”, indie British comedy “Not Another Happy Ending”, co-starring fellow up and comer Jessica Brown Findlay. No word on if that film or “Oculus” will film first.
