EDIT 07/23/12; Lionsgate has made the casting of Jena Malone official via press release.
ORIGINAL POST: Once again… is this our Johanna? THR muddies up the casting rumors for “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” even more by reporting that their sources believe it’s Jena Malone who is now in negotiations for the role of Johanna Mason, not the previously reported Zoe Aggeliki.
Though THR seems confident Malone has the offer and is in early negotiations, we must remember Deadline seemed awfully sure of Aggeliki’s chances too, so perhaps the dust is still not settled in this hotly contested casting yet. The role up for grabs is that of a twenty-something Hunger Games victor from Disctrict 7 who becomes one of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss’s most trusted allies as the fighting moves beyond games and into revolution. Franchis Lawrence will direct the first sequel to “The Hunger Games” this fall, with a release date already set for November 23, 2013.
Malone, last seen on the big screen opposite Emily Browning in Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch”, also recently appeared on hit TNT mini-series “Hatfields & McCoys.” She’s attached to play acclaimed novelist Carson McCullers in “Lonely Hunger” later this year, as well as indies “A Doll’s House” and “The Go-Getters.”
