Brit Marling’s second feature The East is shaping up to be one heck of an anticipated film for 2012. Alexander Skarsgard has joined up to star alongside Marling and last week’s addition of Ellen Page added to the growing list of up and coming stars.
THR are now reporting that Toby Kebbell is in negotiations to join the indie thriller, which was co-written by Marling and long-time collarborator Zat Batmanglij (who will direct the film).
The East stars Marling as an agent who infiltrates an eco-terrorist organization determined to exact revenge against corporations who they believe have engaged in unethical practices. Marling’s character has been hired by a firm who protects these big corporations. Skarsgard would play the leader of the group and Page will be Skarsgard’s former lover who becomes jealous when he begins to pay too much attention to the new addition to the group.
Kebbell, a British actor, “will play a doctor who was treated with a tainted drug that caused him to have Parkinson’s-like symptoms.”
A breakout in Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla, Kebbell has also starred in The Sorcerer’s Apprentice alongside Jay Baruchel, and he can next be seen in Steven Spielberg’s War Horse – one of our most anticipated fall films – and Clash of the Titans 2.
The East is tentatively set for an October/November shoot in Nashville.
