Little known Australian actor Jai Courtney has landed a lead role opposite Tom Cruise in thriller “One Shot”, according to Deadline.
Chris McQuarrie’s adaptation of the Lee Childs series of books sees Cruise as Jack Reacher, a “six-foot-five-inch hulk of a man and a dangerous drifter with a propensity for fighting over talking.” That’s some Hollywood magic right there. In this film, Reacher and a defense attorney, played by Rosamund Pike, investigate what seems to be an open and shut case of a lone sniper who killed five random victims. Of course, a larger conspiracy is unearthed. Courtney will play a highly skilled sniper who tries to stop Reacher from discovering the truth. Unclear if he will be the sniper on trial for the five murders or a co-conspirator.
Aussie Courtney will be making his American feature film debut on this project, after having worked in the States on Starz’s “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” with late fellow countryman Andy Whitifield, who took Courtney under his wing and got him his start in the industry.
