War Horse | December 28, 2011
Director: Steven Spielberg
Writer:Lee Hall (screenplay), Richard Curtis (screenplay)
Cast: Jeremy Irvine, Emily Watson, Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch
What it’s about: Follows a young man named Albert and his horse, Joey, and how their bond is broken when Joey is sold to the cavalry and sent to the trenches of World War One. Despite being too young to enlist, Albert heads to France to save his friend.
Why we’re excited: Does Steven Spielberg ever disappoint? When a movie he directed is on its way, the world pays attention, and we are no exception. The trailer looks grand, sweeping, emotional, all that you would expect from a Spielberg picture. But of course, we are most interested in seeing the plucked-from-nowhere debut of Jeremy Irvine, hand picked by Spielberg to star as Albert in the film. It’s months to go before “War Horse” opens and the young British actor has already landed some major follow-up roles, so we can’t wait to see what Spielberg and the other directors saw in him.
