Not satisfied with the posed, heavily Photoshopped glimpses of Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson modeling their costumes in “The Hunger Games” that we’ve seen so far? Entertainment Weekly does one better and has released the first two stills from the film itself, featuring Lawrence’s Katniss, Hemsworth’s Gale and Hutcherson’s Peeta doing what they do best.
In our first look at scenes from the movie, Lawrence and Hemsworth as Katniss and Gale are pictured crouched down together in the forest, obviously in the midst of one of their hunting trips to garner food to feed their starving families. Katniss has her iconic bow and arrow strapped across her chest. In Hutcherson’s solo shot, Peeta holds a loaf of partly burnt bread, an obvious indication that, as the town baker’s son, he has burnt it on purpose in order to be able to give it to Katniss, a girl he’s secretly loved since childhood.
The inside pages of the new issue of EW also contain even more images not yet posted online, including Lawrence and Hutcherson discussing a scene with Ross; and another new still featuring Hemsworth’s Gale lining up for The Reaping, the random draw that decides which two children from each district will be entered into the titular Hunger Games, an annual televised battle to the death. Be sure to pick up a copy, on sale this Friday, for the full preview!
The Gary Ross directed franchise launcher is currently filming in North Carolina and will be released on March 23, 2012.
