That was fast! Just one day after we first reported that about ten young actors and actresses were testing for the two lead roles in wizard fantasy “The Seventh Son” starring Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore, Variety now confirms that two of those who tested, Sam Claflin and Alicia Vikander, are now in negotiations to play the roles of Tom and Alice, respectively.
Formerly titled “The Spook’s Apprentice” or “The Last Apprentice”, the film will be directed by Sergei Bodrov and is adapted by Max Borenstein from Joseph Delaney’s young adult series about “a 13-year-old who’s the seventh son of a seventh son and learns about wizardry from a forbidding spook.” The story takes place in the 1700′s and judging by the actors chosen, the young teen characters will be aged up quite a bit for the big screen.
Claflin made his acting debut only last year, on the Showtime miniseries “The Pillars of the Earth”, but his big breakthrough might just come this summer, with a pivotal role in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”. Vikander was another finalist for “Snow White and the Huntsman” but not much else is know about the Swedish actress, who has appeared mostly in television roles in her native country.
