Rooney Mara has signed on for her first project since landing the most coveted role of the past several years, Lisbeth Salander for David Fincher’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”. The Playlist reports that Mara will reunite with another former director, Francesca Gregorini of “Tanner Hall”, for “Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes”.

Mara will play a troubled young woman who becomes obsessed with her new neighbor that looks uncannily like the girl’s dead mother. Playlist also reports that rumors that had linked Rachel Weisz to a role in the film, presumably the neighbor, have been shot down her the actress’s reps. Gregorini and Mara have long talked about working together again and it appears they will finally get to as “Emanuel” gears up for a summer shoot. Their film “Tanner Hall”, which debuted at the Toronto Film Festival all the way back in 2009, might finally see the inside of a movie theater this year as new distrubition company Anchor Bay plans to release it late 2011 to coincide with Mara’s “Dragon Tattoo” release.

Mara has been in Sweden filming “Dragon Tattoo” since September, though she and director Fincher, who first worked together on “The Social Network”, have both been spotted hobnobbing at various awards season fetes in LA in the past couple of months. Sony, the studio behind both “The Social Network” and “Dragon Tattoo”, could be giving the production a bit of a break as the “Social Network” gang is in the midst of a very close fight for Oscar glory.

In David Fincher’s Hollywood Reporter article, he said they were filming on six soundstages in LA now. So they may be done with filming in Sweden.
