After last year’s The Runaways and her continuing role in The Twilight Saga, Sixteen year old Dakota Fanning has been quiet of late, but that’s about to change. Variety is today reporting that young Fanning has signed up to star as Princess Margaret, in Michael Hoffman’s Girl’s Night Out.
The story, based on true events, will see Fanning “play a teenage Princess Margaret on V.E. Day in 1945. When she and her sister Elizabeth are allowed out from Buckingham Palace for one night to join in the celebrations, the night encompasses thrills, romance and danger.” Casting directors are still on the lookout for Princess Elizabeth, who in 1955 became the Queen of England, and the script was penned by Trevor de Silva.
This is good timing for the producers of Girl’s Night Out as no doubt there will be many comparisons to The Kings Speech, a film about the Princesses’ father King George VI, and the current Oscar front-runner. But with an American playing the role of British royalty, it will be interesting to see how this one plays out.
