Big news for fans of “The Mortal Instruments” series, as fast-rising starlet Lilly Collins has been set to star in “City of Bones”, the film adaptation of the first novel (in a series of six) by Cassandra Clare, according to Deadline. Though Deadline doesn’t specify, Collins will presumably play the lead character, 15-year old Clary Fray, who discovers that she can see supernatural beings that no one else can and gets drawn into the world of the Shadowhunters, humans who hunt and kill demons. Of course, there is a boy for Clary to fall in love with, and his name is Jace Wayland, an arrogant Shadowhunter. With fan-favorite Collins set as Clary, the fans will now undoubtedly turn their attention to who will be their Jace.
No word yet on when director Scott Charles Stewart will start shooting. Collins is most known for her role in “The Blind Side” and recently completed work on “Abduction” and “Priest”.
UPDATE: Clare has now confirmed that Collins will indeed be portraying Clary Fray on her blog.
Molly quinn should play clary if this is true I am boycotting the movie and never seeing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Reason one molly shoud play Clary Is she loves the books #2 reason she looks part.#3 reason she is a far better actress than this lilly collins hack could ever be.

If you arent going to watch it, do it for the book, not because you’re too narrow minded about who they chose. I’ll never understand how ppl like you think. There is no such thing as the “perfect” clary. or jace, alec, isabelle, or any other fictional character for that matter. And you saying this other girl, who btw, i have never heard of, is better is just ur oppinion. clearly, the film makers had a different one. and seeing as they are the professionals, and you oobviously arent—i can tell by your outburst that you definatly arent—i think they got this covered.
But it is your choice not to see the movie. I just dont think you know what you’re talking about. Also, just because someone loves the books doesnt mean they can play the part.
I agree… to boycott a movie because you disagree with the casting is dumb, its not fair to complain about someones ability to be a character until you’ve actually seen their attempt. Nobody is going to be “perfect”, the character of Clary is made up, she doesn’t really exist… and therefore nobody can actally ‘be’ her.
I love the books and so i’m going to give the movie a sporting chance, i’m not judging until i’ve seen the whole performance… that’ll decide if i see the next movie or not.

I think she’ll make a great Clary. :) She looks the part, and I think her acting skills are superb.
Then you obviously are not a true fan of The Mortal Instruments. Does it really matter who plays Clary? So what if Molly Quinn looks like her how about actually looking in to Lily Collin’s previous acting experience and judging from that instead of making stupid statements like “oh molly quinn loves books she should play clary” I highly doubt she’s the only actress ever in the history of acting to ever like books. Lily Collins has gorgeous red hair which perfect for Clary, does in fact have good acting skills (go watch The Blind Side for an example). There’s no reason to boycott the film just because the actress you envisioned wasn’t who was chosen. I bet Molly Quinn didnt even audition.

I remember seeing The Blind Side and despite all the other big actors on screen, you kinda zoom in on her because of the way she carries herself.
I remember going home and looking her up the net. In the office, the next day, I found out I wasn’t alone; even my girl friends have a ‘girl crush’ on her. ☺

Actually, I love Lily Collins for Clary. She looks just like I imagine Clary to look like when I read the books.
I personally think she will do well. Notice I don’t say “perfect for the role” or “She’ll be great!” because I’ve only ever seen her in The Blind Side. She was very good in what screen time she has, and I’ll have to wait until Abduction and Priest to be released to get a complete opinion on her. Since Priest is another “supernatural” movie, this can help to see how she acts with green screens and other CGI creatures. I’m very excited for the movie.
Hooray! Lily Collins can definitely portray the naïveté and the maturity of Clary Fray if her previous films are any indication.
I’m on fangirl mode right now! I can’t wait to see who they’ll cast next!
I’m beyond pleased with this choice. Lily looks great and I think she will do an amazing job! Can’t wait for the rest of the cast!

Frankly, I don’t think Molly quinn looks like her. Lily Collins looks a lot more like how I always pictured Clary. And she was really good in The Blind Side.
I think she’ll fair very well as Clary in the movie.

Lily Collins is perfect, she looks exactly how I see Clary. Sorry, but Molly Quin doesn’t look anything like how I see Clary. Besides, how would you know how Clary looks like anyway? You didn’t write the book. It doesn’t matter who players the character. But its definitely 110% for Lily Collins.
When I first heard lily Collins was playing clary, I was dissapointed. I wanted Emma Roberts but then I thought I should give lily a chance. So I watched the blind side and now that I watched it I figured lily Collins would be a great clary. For jase, I want Alex pettyfer. He’s a really good actor. I watched wild child and he was in there.

It’s easy to imitate an American accent so I don’t think it matters. So yeah, Alex Pettyfer for Jace!
I dont think it matters that Alex has a british accent. I mean, Jim Sturges, Robert Pattinson, and a lot of other actors have accents, but they’ve just learned how to do the accents that were needed in their particular roles.
Besides, if its the accent your worried about, just watch Alex’s Beastly, coming out in March. He sheds his english accent in that movie.
And as much as i pictured Clary differently, i think Lily will do a great job :) I hope the movie turns out well! i really really reallllllyyyy want to enjoy it! I dont want the movie to be one of those straight to DVD, sell-out, crappy movies. I hope it turns out WICKED! :D
I’ve got to say they could have done a lot worse. I looked this girl up and I like the sound of her voice (not to sound weird). When I hear her talk I see Clary, now how she’ll do with the part is a totally different story ;)
I just really hope they cast Magnus correctly, or at least reasonably ok… if not, then it just wont work for me..

Ok,I am totally with ya’ll who think boycotting a movie because the person you want to play a character didn’t get picked is absurd!It is also immature and like others have pointed out,if you won’t watch the movie for just that reason the you are not a serious fan of the book.I read Vampire Diaries when they first came out(quite a while back) and again when they were republished a couple years ago.I was disappointed when the series on the CW started because Elena and Bonnie did not resemble the characters in the book description.However,I did not boycott the series and truly enjoy it(I am having withdraws bc the show is off air for a month)!I watched it and fell in love withe characters as who they were casted to be.That is reality,grow up people!!!And really think before you post something publicly,you make yourself look unintelligent.
…I don’t really know Molly or Lily.I have look both their pics.Molly doesn’t seem to have the flare of a personality to be the fighter Clary is but like I said,I can’t judge that from a pic and I haven’t seen her act before.On the other hand,Lily seem to fit the part but I haven’t seen her act either,so guess I will see when the movie comes out.You nor I are casting directors or producers,so we must leave this up to the professionals.Sorry,had to air my opinion :)

im actually really sad that they’re making a movie out of this. i mean congrats cassandra clare, but movies always kill the books and the movie will never be even close to how good the books are. this is really disappointing.
i mean take twilight for example. GREAT books, TERRIBLE movies. with people who cant act for shit. i hope they change their minds about making a movie and it gets canceled.
The twilight movies did not ruin the books for me at all. I actually saw Twilight before I read the books and I have read the series several times and love them. Just because you don’t want to see the books become a movie doesn’t means others do also. I am very excited to see this book come to life so please don’t say that you want it to get canceled. If it sucks, it sucks, that doesn’t ruin the books for me and you don’t need to actually go see it
Guys, it really doesn’t matter what she looks like now. They have all sorts of stuff to change appearances and what not. It really only matters if she’s a good actress, which, judging from The Blind Side, she is. So quit ragging on her.
