Is there any question that the biggest breakout star of this summer’s “Inception” is previously little known British actor Tom Hardy? Hardy’s career has been skyrocketing since starring as the forger Eames in Christopher Nolan’s mind bending blockbuster. After landing high profile roles in “Batman 3” for Nolan, “This Means War” opposite Reese Witherspoon and being in the mix for Snow White and the Huntsman, pitting him against Johnny Depp for the role, Bloody Disgusting is now reporting that Hardy has been offered the role of Henry Sturgess in the Tim Burton produced, Timur Bekmambetov directed “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”, based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith.

Part historical fiction, part horror fantasy, the novel chronicles the well documented life and death of Lincoln, but with a twist. When his mother is killed by a vampire in his childhood, Lincoln secretly vows to take revenge on the entire underground race of bloodsuckers. All the decisions he made that changed the course of the nation, in Grahame-Smith’s alternate history, were made with that explicit goal in mind. Henry Sturgess is a vampire ally of Lincoln’s, an omnipresent figure who appears throughout the story.

No word yet on who might portray Lincoln. The film will be released by Twentieth Century Fox on June 22, 2012.
